Friday, August 16, 2013 – The Bill Robinson Memorial Golf Tournament took place today as approximately 180 attendees from the Maintenance Construction and Skilled Trades Council including members, executives and guests descended upon the Deer Creek Golf and Banquet Facility. The attendees got to enjoy the marvelous weather as they participated in a day that included golfing, lunch, dinner, a raffle draw and a special surprise appearance by Canadian heavyweight boxing champion, George Chuvalo. Chuvalo met with many of the attendees and posed for pictures with them which was one of the major highlights of the day. Another highlight of the day was an award ceremony in which President Jimmy Hazel and Vice President Mike Morgan had the honour of presenting a Toronto District School Board (TDSB) recipient with the Bill Robinson award. This year, Abu Hafejee was the lucky recipient as he received a $1,000 cheque and commemorative plaque to mark the occasion with. Mr. Abu Hafejee, who was accompanied by his brother Mr. Mohammad Hafejee, was thrilled to receive the award. This prestigious award is only given to a TDSB student who has demonstrated strong skills and interest in the trades area. It was a tough decision as the TDSB narrowed it down to five candidates who were then interviewed by Mr. Hazel and Mr. Morgan to determine the candidate that best fit the award criteria.

We want to extend our sincere thanks to the individuals who helped organize the event as well as to everyone who was in attendance. The proceeds from the event are being donated to various charities and breakfast clubs throughout the Greater Toronto Area. Thank you for your support in making this event bigger each year.
